Korbin Albert booed by fans in USWNT-Japan following social media controversy

The young American has had quite the week in her return to USWNT camp.

Following a more than controversial end of March for the USWNT's Korbin Albert, the 20-year-old midfielder was relegated to the bench and booed by fans as she came onto the pitch as a substitute.

Korbin Albert was apparently booed by American fans at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium during the USWNT’s SheBelieves Cup semifinal win against Japan this Saturday. The 20-year-old was substituted onto the pitch in the 78th minute and was received by boos and whistles from a large portion of supporters in Atlanta.

Definitely a tough time to be Korbin Albert.

Albert was surprisingly relegated to the bench against Japan despite being part of the USWNT’s starting XI in each of their knockout games in the Concacaf W Gold Cup — playing a huge role in the national team’s title conquest.

Following Albert’s controversial anti-LGTBQ+ social media posts and the USWNT’s return to camp, the Paris Saint-Germain player was received by a tough rebuttal from teammates and captains Lindsey Horan and Alex Morgan against her social media activity, saying the standard and integrity of the national team was not upheld by the midfielder.

Now, despite the off-the-pitch controversies, the U.S. will now prepare to play for yet another trophy, facing off against Canada in the SheBelieves Cup Final next Tuesday.

We will see if Albert makes her way back into Twila Kilgore’s starting lineup or causes another reaction from the American crowd coming from the bench.
