Star Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels couldn’t resist poking fun at the Premier League’s woes in Europe this week as four different EPL teams crashed out of their respective competitions.
Arsenal and Manchester City both suffered quarterfinal exits in the Champions League while Liverpool and West Ham fell short in the Europa League.
EPL fans have mocked the Bundesliga and other leagues for years now with the term “farmer’s league.” The joke is an insult about the league not being competitive as one team always wins it and overall, the league being worse.
Hummels and Bundesliga fans had clearly heard enough slander from their English foes and the 35-year-old took to Twitter after this week’s results in Europe.

This year’s Champions League and Europa League semifinals won’t feature an English team in either competition for the first time since 2015. Despite all the hype around the strength of the Premier League and the excitement of the title race, England will miss the big parties this year.
Aston Villa are the lone English team still standing in the Europa Conference League after defeating Lille on penalty kicks.
Meanwhile the Bundesliga bested the Premier League with Bayern Munich taking down Arsenal 3-2 on aggregate and Bayer Leverkusen dispatching West Ham 3-1 and remaining unbeaten on the season.
Hummels and Dortmund won a 4-2 thriller against Atlético Madrid to survive 5-4 on aggregate.
It’s entirely possible that this season could see an all-German Champions League final (Bayern vs. Dortmund) and a German champion in the Europa League with Leverkusen.
